It is important to note that the popular UPE (Universal Primary Education)
had not yet started. The Government of Uganda inaugurated the UPE project in 1997.
For the last 18 years, CSH has provided free basic education to over 10,000 orphans and underprivileged children in Uganda. Kiwangala project stated with 6 temporary grass classrooms which accommodated the 1470 pioneer pupils in the primary level ranging from 5 to 16 years. Today we are glad to mention that Kiwangala project runs a primary school, secondary school, a vocational project and a Functional Adult Literacy project with conventional classrooms; thanks to the many volunteers from allover the world who have made it possible.
Children's Sure House has also constructed 17 houses for old people and poor families in our communities who have graduated from sleeping in grass houses to iron corrugated houses.
Among the services CSH offers to the communities include: on-site accommodation to destitute pupils, adult literacy classes, support income generating activities through enhancing agricultural projects and model farming, HIV/ Aids sensitization, Older Person's Project women organization and reaching out to the communities for encouragement.
Today many local leaders and local businessmen and women can read and write English and their local languages, because of CSH adult literacy project.
Education:
CSH appreciates all volunteers for their effort in deveolping kiwangala villag
e especially the LIVINGSTONE organization. Today Sure House academy school can provide Education to children from Primary one to Primary Seven in standard furnitured classrooms. However there is still a task of completing the Examination Hall that will be used as an examination center for the children in primary seven for their Primary Leaving National Examinations and it will be the biggest center in the district of Masaka/Lwengo. The examination hall will also generate income for CSH sustainability. The photos below can clearly show the progress so far.
An example of Ugandans improving their quality of life through CSH's community development is our Home Sustainable Living Program. CSH works to create self-sustainability in Uganda by harnessing the potential of individuals to develop themselves, their households, and their communities. CSH partners with groups at all levels, including local, national, and international organisations in the development process. This is no better exemplified than by John Ssentongo's Model farm on our website.
The picture below shows a home of Aisha who is a grand mother catering for her 3 orphaned grand children who are all our beneficialies. CSH constructed their home and graduated from the grass roofed house to a modern house.
